Sy Smith! Live in STL w/ Mo E All-Stars

Well suffice to say I've been looking forward to this for a long time.  The fantastic Sy Smith is in town and will be doing a show at the Zack! tomorrow August 29 at 8P.  That would be enough but as a bonus I'm honored to lead her backing band featuring members of Mo E All-Stars- Grover Stewart Jr. -Drums and Eric "Snoopy" Tyler- Bass along with special guest Pete Lombardo - Guitar.

As one of the leaders of the indie soul movement (having released 4 CDs/2EPs/1 DVD), plus recording and/or touring with some of the biggest names in R&B, hip-hop and jazz (Whitney Houston, Meshell Ndegeocello, The Foreign Exchange, and countless others) it's no wonder Emmy-nominated recording artist Sy Smith has been dubbed by her peers as the "queen of underground soul".

After 6 years of soul-searching, touring with Grammy-winning trumpeter Chris Botti, and performing tributes to Ella Fitzgerald at Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center and more, Sy has finally returned to her most beloved craft - a singer/songwriter/recording artist. And she's finally released her long-awaited 5th studio project - "Sometimes A Rose Will Grow In Concrete" - which she wrote & produced entirely herself.

This project is already being hailed as one of the best of 2018, earning highest rating of "Highly Recommended". SoulBounce says "There's not a bad track to be heard on Sometimes A Rose Will Grow In Concrete, a testament to Sy's command of her craft and her approach to her artistry."

And music critic A. Scott Galloway says " Most impressively, Sy has gathered all of her experience and acquired expertise to compose, arrange, perform and produce all of these 9 songs and 3 interludes herself, even playing piano, keyboards and bass on several selections. The result is gentle eclectic, sensitive and soulful."

Sy Smith will perform songs from this new album plus fan favorites from her other projects, inspired covers and new standards. This is Sy's first solo set in St. Louis in more than 6 years and she's thrilled to return to the Gateway City!

Sy will be backed by St. Louis’ own Mo Egeston All-Stars (Mo E All-Stars) with Maurice Mo Egeston on keys, Grover Stewart Jr. on drums and Eric Snoopy Tyler on bass along with special guest Pete Lombardo on guitar
